We are Andrew Watson and Ian Rutter. We moved to Andalucia in October 2016 having lived and worked for many years in London. In 2018 we bought and restored a village house in Moclín which we now run as a small Bed & Breakfast. In 2021 we restored another house in the same village which is available for holiday rentals. Andrew is a Graphic Designer and the visual maestro behind the brand, styling and marketing of our estate agency, Granada Village & Country. Andrew also works for private clients, developing brands and creative marketing strategy.
Ian has variously been a voiceover artist, broadcaster, radio presenter and businessman, and is now the editorial and development brains behind Granada Village & Country. He trained as an Architect and has had a varied career including over 10 years as creative director and managing director of two marketing agencies. Ian also paints and you can see his work and buy prints and original artwork at www.ianruttervoice.com
Together, Ian and Andrew now concentrate their time and creative talents on Granada Village and Country, a specialist real estate agency covering Granada Province in southern Spain. The couple were instrumental in bringing the BBC to Moclín for the filming of ‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’.
Our aim initially was to document our move from London and our first year in Spain. We didn’t know how long we would stay in Spain but it became clear right from the outset that this was a place where we wanted to remain and explore for quite some time.
Having taken the plunge and become residents we faced many of the challenges that moving to a new country presents, and we have tried, through this blog, to share the many thrills, frustrations, joys and problems that we have experienced. In doing so, we hope to help others who are thinking of making the same move.
We love exploring, discovering hidden spots, immersing ourselves in traditions and cultures, and try to capture every moment through photography and the written word in order to give the best possible insights into this beautiful country.
If you are thinking of visiting Andalucia and would like our recommendations for places to visit, restaurants to try, walks to take, then we would love to hear from you and help if we can. Also if you are thinking of making the move yourself we would be happy to impart helpful tips that will make your move easier. Or maybe you have suggestions for us?!
